Italian scientists have succeeded in creating the world's first horse clone.

The foal, called Prometea, was born 10 weeks ago and appears to be perfectly healthy.

To create Prometea, scientists took a skin cell from an adult mare which was fused with an empty equine egg.

The mare then acted as a surrogate mother for Prometea - so giving birth to a carbon copy of herself.

The development is reported in the journal Nature. It means that scientists have now cloned sheep, mice, cattle, goats, rabbits, cats, pigs and mules. The mule, called Idaho Gem, was born earlier this year in the US.

How soon till humans? ed:

Im just wondering when they are going to get to the good stuff in cloning, such as apes and man. I'm not against it at all, it's wierd and kind of freaky but its not really "bad". Man isnt playing god, man is just manipulating what he has learned about life and creation to make his own. Anyways man played got the first time he picked up a rock and crashed another man's skull in.

I'm not sure why people think its creepy... It's simply cutting out the half of the DNA from an egg cell and implanting the full DNA from a normal cell of the mother then putting the fertilized egg back into the uterus and hope it grows...

You have to remember though that just say you had a human clone of yourself, it wouldnt mean they would be exactly like you. DNA wise, they would, but they might grow up to like different things, they might get a better education than you or they might lead a life of drugs and stuff.

Could you imagine how boring it would be if your clone was EXACTLY like you in every way. You could never have a decent conversation with yourself.

On the other hand, if i could get a clone of myself, but have my man parts replaced with lady parts, i wouldnt mind shagging myself, and i know my lady clone of myself would never turn down the chance for sex.
