Default server performance? - 10-28-2003, 05:10 AM

Hi guys,

Basically I have a MOH SH server which I run for messing around with and the occasional game. Its currently running on a P3 700mhz with 768MB ram and 12gb free hdd space. Its running linux. I used to run the same type of game on a P3 450 with 256 ram. The only difference is that the P3 450 was used internally on the network, whereas the other one can be played on externally. The P3 700 I have tried with 5 ppl on it, and the other one (P3 450) with 6 - 8.

The server has a fixed 8MB link. Whilst playing on it, it lagged when someone joined or left and also lagged for a few seconds every minute or so... Any ideas on why this could be? Are there any performance tweaks that can be done to the server? I have switched off all the unnecessary services on the linux box to attempt increase performance. There are probably some console cmds that can help performance?...

Any suggestions or tips would be most welcome!

I honestly don't know why the ping times suddenly go up for a second or 1, and then come down.

Thanx,

BBF

Its on an 8MB connection. Could the connection be lagging? I connect from home to the same ISP using ADSL and don't get that "few seconds a minute" of lag
