Default How to make a weapon skin - 12-23-2003, 10:39 AM

Ok, I took a lot of time outta my busy schedule to make this, so enjoy!
What you will need:

Some kind of zipping/unzipping program ex. Winzip
MOHAA
Photoshop or PaintshopPro
Follow these steps exactly and you will be able to create a nice weapon skin.

Goto your MOHAA main folder ex: c:gamesmohaamain in Microsoft Explorer

Click file, new, folder

Name the new folder, for example, Rifle.

Now follow carefully. The folder structure for the weapon we will be skinning. is in the following folders of Pak2.pk3. textures/models/weapons/m1garand/garand.tga. Because of this, we will need to create the same folder structure to make the skin work.

If you are not in the /main folder please go back there now.

Double-Click on your newly created Rifle folder.

Inside the Rifle folder, click file, new, folder.

Name the new folder textures.

Double-Click on your newly created textures folder.

Inside the textures folder, click file, new, folder.

Name the new folder models.

Double-Click on your newly created models folder.

Inside the models folder, click file, new, folder.

Name the new folder weapons.

Double-Click on your newly created weapons folder.

Inside the weapons folder, click file, new, folder.

Name the new folder m1garand.

Okay, what you just created was the file structure of the m1garand rifle. Take a break now, because this is where everyone messes up...

If you are not in the /main folder please go back there now.

We will now create a folder to put all of the contents of Pak2.pk3 into.

Click file, new, folder.

Name the new folder Pak2 (so that you know that the contents are from Pak2.pk3)

If you are not in the /main folder please go back there now.

Double-Click on Pak2.pk3.

A window in Winzip will come up asking if you agree, press agree.

A window listing everything in Pak2.pk3 will come up, with some options above them.

There will be a big button along the top bar that says Extract.

Click that button and you will get another window that asks you where extract to.

Click in the text area and type the location of of your newly created Pak2 folder, ex: c:gamesmohaamainpak2

When you have that typed in click Extract

The files will start extracting to your newly created Pak2 folder.

Once they are finished extracting, exit out of winzip.

If you want to you can now view the contents of the Pak2 folder, but dont mess with anything or else the whole chain of folders will be ruined.

Open up Photoshop or PaintshopPro.

Click File, Open

Find your /main folder from the drop down list..

Goto your newly created Pak2 folder that you unzipped the files into

Inside the Pak2 folder you will see 2 folders, Double-Click on the textures folder.

Inside the textures folder find the models folder, then Double-Click on that folder.

Inside the models folder find the weapons folder, then Double-Click on that folder.

Inside the weapons folder, find the m1garand folder, then Double-Click on that folder.

Now you will see 2 files, GARAND.tga and m1clip.tga.

m1clip.tga is the reload clip of the gun, GARAND.tga is the gun itself.

Double-Click on GARAND.tga to open it.

What you now have in front of you is the layout view of the gun, this is how MOHAA sees it.

Now this is where your imagination comes in. You can change the color of wood or metal to whatever you like. You could even use some filters if you want to.

When you have edited the image to your liking, click file, Save As.
DO NOT CLICK FILE SAVE, THIS WILL OVERWRITE THE GAME'S FILE!!!

In the Save As window go back to /main folder, and then Double-Click on your newly created Rifle folder.

Inside the Rifle folder, Double-Click on the textures folder.

Inside the textures folder, Double-Click on the models folder.

Inside the models folder, Double-Click on the weapons folder.

Inside the weapons folder, Double-Click on the m1garand folder.

This is where you will save GARAND.tga. Click Save now.

Exit Photoshop or PaintshopPro.

If you are not already in Explorer, open it up and go back to your /main folder.

Now its time to repack the skin to make it work in-game...

Once inside the /main folder, Double-Click on your newly created Rifle folder.

Now Right-Click on the textures folder.

A little menu will come up, now click on Add to Zip.

Winzip's window will open again, just click agree.

Another window will show up asking you where to add the archive.

In the text area near the top of the window, type the following, for example: c:gamesmohaamainRifle.pk3
*you can name the .pk3 anything you want, and no it does not have to have a User in front of it to work, you would only name it User if you are submitting a mod to a website.*

Click the Add to Archive button, now you will see it zipping your folders back together so that the game can recognize it.

Once it has finished, exit Winzip
Now your skin is in .pk3 file format (which MOHAA can read), and will work in-game.

Now make sure that no other weapon skin files are in the /main folder

Now start the game with Texture Compression OFF (since its a .tga file)

Okay, if you have followed each step, you will have created your brand new Garand skin. Just make sure no other Weapon Skins beside the oneyou created are in the /main folder, or nothing will show up okay.

Have fun biggrin:

stupid:

1. There are already a few guides on this website.

2. Why use winzip? Makes it more complicated. The only thing I need is photoshop. And pakscape.

ANyway the guide is okay, but I still can't figure out why you wrote it.

Merry christmas.
