Radar Detectors -
05-13-2004, 08:01 PM
I was thinking about buying a radar detector for my jeep. I see a lot of models are available for like $100 while others are upwards of $300. Anyone own a decent radar detector or have any insight on what to buy?
Do they actually work correctly or do they warn you too late when you have passed the speed trap?

if you are in canada DO NOT USE ONE, you will get busted. Cops cars up here have detectors to detect radar detectors. A teacher at my school had a radar detctor plugged in & was just going trough the timmy's drive trough, ends up their was an unmarked cruiser 3 cars back & their detector picked it up, next thing ya know their knocking on his window & there it is sitting right on the center console biggrin: owned

I was following a volvo one day doing about 80ish in a 55. Next thing I know hte guy slams on his brakes. So I do the same, about 15 seconds later we pass by about 2-3 staties sittign in a trap. If he hadnt been there I would have been pulled over. Id say they work.

sometimes the detectors go off through microwaves. Sometimes if you go by a restraunt it will beep for no good reason.

we used to have one - it does help - but it does beep at alot of uneccessary things. Police stations, random buildings anything.
It got annoying after a while so we just turned it off.

You better watch out for that one, though. Cops can detect that and if you are caught with one, you get to pay a fat fucking fine on top of your speeding ticket. Plus they take it away, so there goes your $300.
