before i saw the 2nd pic, i thought that was just a regular color photograph, great job!

I have a wierd habit of calling ALL layer modes overlays.
Even though for color restoration i either use color or overlay and tweak the opac

Another good way of doing it is to use CMYK curves with masked adjustment layers.
