As it has been said already you'll never get great teamwork on a public server.

One other thing though... Covering fire on a map like The Hunt would be fairly pointless. Especially if you're using it to try to suppress Axis snipers.

Why?

Well, the whole reason covering fire is used in real battle is because you are scared for your life. If you're an Axis soldier crouched in a window with a sniper rifle and all of a sudden bullets start pinging about the frame you'll put your head down for fear of being killed.

In a game, you don't get that fear at all, as if you get unlucky and get hit in the head you can just get up and start again next round.

Covering fire will only work when the enemy is in fear of getting hit. In a game that will be very rare.

In a clan match though you're sure to be more careful as you don't want to let the team down. Plus in clan games you'll have less gun-ho soloists (myself included) and much more tactics.

Public servers are fun in a way, but I'm certain they won't equal the fun you'll get from competetive matches.

I'm more scared in waiting 5 minutes to start over again. I'll keep my head down for sure!

All this talk about clans is making me want to enroll in one. All I need is a headset and a Roger Wilco type program. Should be able to find those relativelly cheap.

I have to agree with you Raven. THere is not as much teamwork as i'd like to see. But sometimes there is. It just depends on the folks playing at the moment. I've played a few games with great teamwork and others with none at all. In my personal experience, I've seemed to notice that smaller teams encourage cooperation more.. i.e. servers with less than 12 players max. If you haven't already, try looking for servers with less players like 8 or 10.
Here's my gripe about online teamwork (or lack of) teammates who BACK OFF to let YOU go into a hostile area first without throwin a grenade in or laying some covering fire.

Yea, I kinda agree with you both. I would like to see some more team work as well. I mean, if you work as a team, it would probably be and feel more realistic as the true WWII setting. When I say teamwork, I don't mean TFC style, im just saying, people covering other people while they go in.

Sometimes playing with grenades can be dangerous. Not knowing where the other guy is going and throwing a grenade at the exact spot he goes to. Happened to me a few times, being blown up by someone whom thought I was going the other way

Can you please elaborate on the covering and firing approach?

You know what covering fire is if you completed basic trn' in the U.S. Army.

Try joining a clan you will have much more fun. I was in the snowy park map and me and my bro broke from the pack...becuase on open servers the other players are more of a hinderance than help. We silent walked...imagine that two people walking together silently slowly hunting down the remains of the oposinng team. We were on gamevoice talking to one another and telling each other what to do, that is what a clan is about. Very fun and very exciting, you will never get that on an open server.

Hunt map open server...allies run to the first building and stop. This is the most stupid tactic a person can get, you are basicly stuck now in a cross fire in a dead end. I cringe when I play that map as I see people just stop there as this will some how help them.

Don't ever expect people on an open server to understand the basics of battle.

I've played on large teams and small, and by far too many people just equals chaos. Its a blast, and it can be refreshing sometimes, but if you want teamwork, nothing beats a clan boys! But the next best thing is a smaller group and LOTS of communication.
A good example of the kind of covering fire I dont see enough of: On The Hunt, allies crossing the first road... the BAR's should be laying down suppressive fire down the street as best the can so the faster players can get across IMMEDIATELY!
