Default What Processor... - 12-23-2004, 08:38 AM

Quick question, I havewn't been keeping up on Computer Specs lately I was wondering if the

AMD FX 55 64 is worth the money (174 bucksmore) over the AMD 4000 (Sockey939) ? Is the performance in these high priced processors worth it ? Is theri a cheaper solution with near performance of these two ? (AMD wise/ I don't buy intel)... Unless you have some sort of p4 that is really worth it etc.

Gerv, Akuma, Machette... I need your opinions most on this one.

I would say "No", but it depends on how much cash you've got to spare. If you Google for some benchmarks you'll find that there isn't a lot between those 2 processors, performance wise.

Yes.

Yes. Consider buying an Athlon 64 3500 Winchester, and overclock the fucker. They're reasonably priced and are supposed to overclock well with good cooling.

I don't really keep up with the new tech stuff unless im looking to upgrade. The amd 64's usually beat p4's in anything but video encoding where intel has a bit of an advantage.

Theyre worth the money id say, im probably gonna switch over to amd sometime next year.

Get the new Winchester 90nm chips. They overclock like a dream. The 3500+ is good price point. Really good stock performace plus insane overclocks.

If you don't want to spend that much get a 3000+ or 3200+ they are cheap and usually OC to 2.6ghz or more on air.

IMO, 4000+ and the FX series are a waste of money. At most a 10% performance improvement but hundreds of dollars more.

5900XT is faster, but I highly suggest you get either a 9800 Pro if you can find it for around $150-170 or spend the extra and get a 6660GT.

Alright, ill give you a scoop of what im going for.

-Antec Sonata Piano Black Quiet Case (sound proofed)
-Win3500 + 90nm
-Zalman CNPS7000B
-Asus AN8 SLI Deluxe
-OCZ 1GB PC4000 EL Dual Channel Gold (or) Corsair 1GB XMS Pro Series PC 3200 TwinX1024LL
-120 GB WD Cavier SATA 150 7200 RPM HD (or) 74 GB Raptor SATA 150 10 000 rpm
-Vantec Stealth 520Watt PSU
-(Using my old FOrtissimo 7.1 3 sound card and my gigaworks 7.1 speakers from my current system.)
-Thermaltake censor fans all over the case,

Which choices on the ram and HD do you think would be best ? s the raptor harddrive worth it ? (I only use Western Digital)

That Corsair RAM is TCCD if I remember right. That means they can run super low latencies at high speeds... sort of the new BH-5 if you know your RAM....

Anyways the hard drives is more of your own personal opinion. What do you need more? Space or speed? I used to have a 74GB raptor and it wasn't much faster than my 7200rpm drives... at least not $150 faster.

What graphics card are you getting? You'll need a PCIe card with that.

still deciding on that, I got a month to decide and a shitload of cash to spend, does that board not have a agp slot on it ? I would like to buy Himmlers old 4600 and run it for a few months until i commit myslef to spending 500 bucks on a brandspanking new one. Probably going to stay with the OCZ, considering ill save 150 bucks on it.
