BIA Server Info -
01-05-2005, 10:50 AM
I don't know if this is common knowledge, but in BIA we wont have to rent servers, instead we will connect to a main server, then create rooms for people to join and play. It's very similiar to Blizzard's Warcraft.
I don't know about the rest of you, but that sounds awesome to me :)

Yeah, that sounds tight' man. But as long as they're relatively fast servers I don't have a problem with it. But they're free, nuff' said

Sure, check out http://bia.esgnserver.de/?page=article_ ... =6&site=27
they asked the GBX CEO 10 questions about BIA
here's the reply about the servers.
Planet-Bia.de:
How we can play online. Is it possible to take dedicated Servers or will Gearbox take Servers like Novalogic for Joint Operation ?
Randy Pitchfort
On-line games allow you to lead a squad of AI soldiers - just like single player, except that the enemy is commanded by human squad leaders. The games are like missions and are launched from a lobby. Dedicated servers aren't relevant to this kind of game design - just create a game or join one that someone else has created whenever you want to play. There are some built in match-making features that should make it all easy for you. The game design is very different - you have never played a competitive squad leader game like this before.
Because it is different, we know some people will have a hard time comparing it to past experiences prior to trying it themselves. To best imagine it, just forget your past experiences in on-line games, and instead think about the promise of commanding a squad of AI soldiers against other players who also have AI soldiers. You will use fire and
move tactics with your squad to out-flank and outwit your opponents.

Dub you should know it is a port lol, why was the game delayed? Because they where having problems transfering it over to the ps2 from the xbox. They werent all 3 made at the same time made by the same people or else the comp would be out already, they would have each sections for each version of the game instead of having all of em all in the same area. Same reason why there wont be any prone or lean in the comp version cause they didnt have enough buttons to have prone or lean on the xbox. Also why would they design the mp for the xbox and then trasnfer it over to the comp if its not a port?

Also this was post on our forums
[quote:5909e]Q:How do the servers works?
A:
quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Xbox Live games are typically hosted by Microsoft (except for some EA games which EA hosts themselves).
PC games are typically hosted by end users who either run servers on cable modems, DSL lines, T1 lines or rent servers from hosting companies that provide bandwidth.
Gamespy provides an application that helps you find servers, but the servers you connect to typically aren't hosted by gamespy. If the server is slow and has high latency (lots of lag), you are probably connected to someone at home running a 128kbps ADSL circuit. Don't rely on the ping time when connecting to servers. Ping packets are very small and are not a good indicator of overall network bandwidth (throughput).

Looks to me what you posted was about the xbox version not the pc version. TO me in that answer there will still be servers that are rented and hosted etc.
Also this was posted about the numbers in the MP aspec hopefully that is just the xbox version
[quote:5909e]Q: How many MP players can there be per server?
A:
quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you are asking, "You can play 1 human verses 1 other human (each controlling a squad of AI guys)?", then the answer is yes.
The multiplayer modes that have been announced so far is "1 vs. 1", "1 vs. 2" and "2 vs. 2".

Everything you just wrote is wrong. I suggest checking out the official forums. Read some of the stickies at the top of the forum, you will probably learn a lot.

That quote is pretty old, and as you probably know, lots of things can change while developing a game.
This Quote was taken from an interview that's only a few days old.
Also, one of the MP developers of BIA told me personaly how servers work in the #brothersinarms irc channel
irc.gamesurge.net #brothersinarms , if you would like to join us :)

I do belive what you said is incorrect about my post being old
http://forums.ubi.com/eve/ubb.x?a=tpc&s ... 5441075062
Was posted January 5th 2005 from the offical forums....
Saying what I said is completly wrong? Jesus man Ive been a mod at http://www.biahq.com since June Ive been following this game way before this forum has.
If you read ever interview with them they are usually talking from the xbox point of view. How does Halo2 launch on the xbox? From lobbies. And what they are saying about lobbies sounds alot just like the xbox. Almost every kind of xbox game online is setup through a lobby. I doubt they will change the MP they wouldnt come out and say, its 1v1, 1v2, or 2v2 and then change it without anybody knowing a month before the game comes out to 8v8 or 16v16.
There is no TDM, or DM is the MP to me honestly I think they where lazy on the MP. Them saying its inovative etc and its new and nobody will get use to the obj. Please.
How long did it take you to get use to COD or mohaa or any other game online to find out where key points are and tricks. Everybody will find out sooner or later. And with the MP being 1v1, 1v2, or 2v2 makes it sound more than enough to be a port cause its sounds just like a Xbox or PS2 game online.
Honestly Im really excitied about this game but they could have done alot better advertising, more support to communities etc and I think they just shitted out the MP just to say they have one.

I'm not trying to insult you, i'm sure the site you mod for is great and all, but everything you posted was incorrect. I have also followed this game for a long time, since the game was called "bakers Dozen" actually. I have read every review, watched every trailer, and i'm active on all of the main BIA forums. I'm not one to spread false information, all the BIA info i post is available for anyone to find.

They talk from the Xbox point of view because that's where the money is. Console games bring in a lot more money than pc games. It's a business decision, and a smart one at that. why show the pc version? The XBOX version looks awesome, people with pc's will just assume it will look better because the pc is more powerfull, and it will too.
A lot of games use lobbies for their mp. Look at all the blizzard games. Here is a quote i took from another forum reguarding the game lobby system.
"If you ever played any ubi soft game you would know how it's going to be. All Ubi Soft games are run that way. For example, the Tom Clancy games."
I'm not going to attempt to argue with you about MP. I have done so in many threads and it's just a waste of time to comment on something i, nor anyone else, have played. As i said, I talk with a few of the mp devs every other day. The way they talk shows how passionate they are about the MP. I'm very excited to play BIA's MP, just watching the videos make me want to play it.

They do advertise, I just saw an add in EGM magazine yesterday. I would expect to see a lot of commercials right before the game is out, and probably after. They are very involved in the community, go to their forums and you can see they answer a lot of questions, and like i said, there's also an irc channel. irc.gamesurge.net #brothersinarms
