Burning a hole in my pocket. -
01-21-2005, 08:03 PM
Well, I just got my check for my share of the NFL survivor pool that just ended. I was one of the last four and we decided to split. My share is $1455.75, not bad for a $10 entry fee. Anyway, my wife mentioned in passing a new shed for the back yard, but I don't feel like throwing down a grand for a fucking 10 x 10 outhouse.
Because I won this, I definitely want to avoid doing anything practical with it like paying down my mortgage or investing it. Anyway, I don't have a digital camera so I'm considering a DSLR. I guess my question is.....If you came into a chunk of change like this, what would you blow it on. dance:

Pay off the remainder on my car. That way over a period of months i could regain all that money, plus more. Simply by not having a car payment, and lower the insurance coverage.
Then i would spend the money saved each month to buy stuipid wasteful crap.

DSLR's are only worth it if you really put your time into learning it and using it. I have a Nikon d70, and love it, but if you're just looking for a good digital camera - get a high pixel point and shoot. They have enough options to cover most SLR control, and still create beautiful pictures.

That's what I'm looking for, ideas for stupid wasteful crap. My '03 Honda Pilot is paid off, we only owe $5000 on our '04 Accord with 4.5 years left on the loan and we have no debt besides a mortgage. My wife does well and is really good with money. I usually spend money only on the essentials and crap for my kids, but I think I'll blow this money since I earned it.

I have a 3 year old EOS Rebel with a couple of zoom lenses and I don't want to go back to a point and shoot. I'll check out your Nikon if you think its a good value.
