Default Digital Cameras - 05-30-2005, 09:28 PM

I know nothing about cameras and how good one is from another besides looking at price. You guys always seem to be posting pics so I imagine you either are using a webcam or digital cam...

Can someone direct me to a cheap digital camera that would link to my pc quickly and easily. I don't need a huge zoom or anything spectacular, I just want something with which I can take pics and put them on my computer, ocasionally printing them in decent quality.

Would it be worth it to buy this for $71?: http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/HP-Photo ... tDetail.do

Or would I be shooting myself in the foot buying a POS, and I should get something better?

I think that one might be a bad choice, even though the price is pretty nice. Try and get something above 3 megapixels (mp is the deciding factor in image quality).

Go here http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare.asp

Under options select

Format - compact
Price (street) - <US$200
Sensor Photo Detectors - 4 million

Then hit compare. It will provide you with a list of good cameras, along with user reviews, the site's indepth review (which is highly creditable and usually contains sample photos), and anything you need to know about the camera.

Ya, what are you using it for?

Canon PowerShots are pretty good for point and shoot picture taking.

normally you should get a better camera than a 70 dollar one, because once you start getting involved with digi cams, you enjoy taking pictures. you'll regret getting a crappy one, and then will look for a much better one. just my input

I just got a Canon Powershot SD400 5MP Digital Elph and am absolutely thrilled with it. I have a non-digital EOS Rebel with 3 zoom lenses and don't see myself using that much for everyday pictures after getting my new cam. rock:

Basically I just want to take 4x6 pictures, nothing fancy. Mainly I want to be able to go somewhere, snap some pics and then transfer them to my computer, maybe print a few. I guess my family might use it as well so I want some decent quality photos at that 4x6 size. Zoom would be nice, nothing too extravagant.

No proffessional type stuff.

Thank you for the replies so far.
