Default !! Urgent Tech Question !! - 06-07-2005, 08:37 PM

Hey guys, I was talking with my dad and we have come into a lil problem. You see there is a pc that belongs to a friend of ours that had MacFee on it, running XP with SP-2, and is part of a network. Well, we have since uninstalled MacFee and thought everything was fine...but when we tried to get online...we couldn't...we can not even SEE the Router's Control Panel Page in IE....was wondering if anyone knows anything about this and how to fix it. Thanks for ANY kind of help.

P.S. All the other pc's on the network are ABLE to log onto the network and internet. Thanks for help.

That's happened to me. If you've got DSL, just reset your modem all over again by using a little pin to press that puny button.

Check Device Manager and make sure your ethernet card/on board is still installed.

Why would he reset the modem when he already said all the other pcs are online? oOo: Its not the connection its the pc and prob sp2/browser related

Try resetting your winsock files

type this in start>run>cmd then ok then type in the black window netsh winsock reset press enter this will reset ur winsocks in xp (SP2 only)
You also need to make totaly sure mcafee is gone cos it sometimes leaves configs in windows to block everythin.

let me know how u go

lmao @ the modem stupid: ....Ok man, I will give that a go when I get to the computer...at home now. As far as removing any traces of mcafee, I believe I have I went through the folders by exploring, then I went ahead and went through the registry and took out any traces of it in there as well. I checked my add/remove programs to make sure they were gone from there as well. I will try resetting those as soon as I get to the pc. Thanks for the tip I will try it out and let you know!
