Default Double Windows XP Pro - 06-24-2005, 07:15 PM

Alright, I just reinstalled Windows XP Pro. However, nothing is perfect, I am still unable to view some .wmv videos; when I restart, the prompt comes up asking me which OS I want to start. Two are listed with the same names. How do I get rid of the other one?

This is easier than you think.

.Put everything you want to save on one of the drives. IE C:/ or D:/
.Insert your XP pro disc and boot from disc
It will upload start-up files, and then ask what you want to do
.Select to install Xp pro on your PC.
.It will then ask you where to install and will show your drives.
Simply select the drive you don't want to keep, and delete it... it shows you how
.Now format the extra space into a new partition.

Now you should have only one OS, and a clean drive.

Yeah he just prolly had windows installed on the 2nd hdd as well. Hrm...still wondering tho...why would it see the 2nd installation of windows on the 2nd hdd if it were slave?! eek: I mean, wouldn't it only see the OS's on the Master HDD? If I am wrong (prolly am) can you correct me as to why it is able to see a 2nd OS on the Slave HDD at Boot?! And if this was only on one HDD...then you got some SERIOUS issues and you NEED to save your data and reformat...no questions asked...your OS is VERY unstable.

As far as I can tell, there is only 1 disk drive here with multiple partitions. If you followed jethro's advice, go into disk manager and make sure your entire disk is formatted on the same partition. I believe with NTFS and XP Pro, you can add the unpartitioned space to your primary volume.
