Digital Camera Thread. -
11-26-2005, 08:50 PM
As it is Christmas comming up, I was going to buy my Father a Digital Camera for when my dad goes on a Trip to Cuba in the New Year.. I have no idea what all that camera jazz is, what MP are good and what not..
My question is. What would you say is the Best camera for the best price. I wanna get him a decent camera, Nothing too cheap..
All you camera people out there help me out.
I have been looking at a Nikon Coolpix 5600 5.1MP for 299.99 at Best Buy.. Should I go to a place like Best Buy or hit up a Camera store like Blacks?

Anything in your price range from Nikon, Canon, or Kodak will be fine. Some others are Sony and Olympus but I don't either of them.
For most purposes you'd never need more than 4MP.

ROFL so true, get that Nikon or get the Canon ELPH Powershot 450, i think its like 50 dollars more, but i like it more than that Nikon. Dont get the ELPH Powershot 400 though, the processor is slower than the 450.

I'd stick with a Canon Powershot. They arent bad, and I'm sure you can find one at a decent price. Anything around 3.5-4 MP should fine for your purposes.

Im telling you, Canon Powershot 450, fucking nice, its 350 dollars. 5 Megapixles, 3 x optical. You dont really need more than 5. Its a great camera, and in a nice small package.

get a Nikon coolpix, and check http://www.buydig.com for prices. for some reason they have extremely cheap prices for Nikon products. My dad bought a 7mp coolpix for $125 cheaper than the usual price, and upon searching lenses i found what i wanted for $100 cheaper than any other store.

I got a coolpix with 4 mp but like 8x optical zoom which is really good too. Optical zoom is really important as well because digital zoom often looks like crap.
check out http://www.bhphotovideo.com/ they have tons of stuff

Nice site dude, i get a discount off cameras, but this site is better. Only problem with Online is the waranty, at best buy if my camera stops working i just bring it back, but if i buy online i gotta deal with the internetz. But they got a Rebel Xt for 683, thats awesome.

beachcameras.com is a good place to look. i got a Fujifilm S5100 4MP 10x optical zoom, and lots of very nice features. highly recommended for someone who wants to be serious about taking high quality pics for under 400 USD. there are newer, and i assume better versions of this camera, but it is a good buy and a very nice camera, im very pleased cool:

I want a digital SLR, i was playing with one today, all day at work cause i was bored, fucking awesome, just figuring out some little things about them.
I also was messing with the Canon A620, and the macro mode on the canons are amazing, i found it to be a better macro mode than the Nikon Coolpix series.
