Port Triggering -
12-08-2005, 11:15 AM
I heard of Port Triggering to make my internet speeds faster. I am currently hooked up to a router shared by 2 other dersktops and a laptop (which is hardly ever on). My question im guessing is, is there any way to make my internet faster at DLing or playing games through tricks of opening ports on the router or what not?

the only real way to increase your speed would be to uncap your cable modem. however, this is highly illegal and is very tricky to get to work. i think most of those programs that claim to increase speed are stupid:

port triggering is opening certain ports up to incoming/outgoing connections. the ports are triggered by the kind of data in/out on the port.

Just an upgrade on the network, my old modem was a motorola surfboard 3100, ig ot upgraded to 10-mb but the modem couldn't handle the speed. Rang my isp they sent out an engineer with a new modem, he went down to get his tools when he came back up i already had it connected and dloading some demos to tst the speed. oOo:

Just a new service theyre rolling out, try calling your isp or checking their hompage to see if they offer any faster services, usually theres a few different options you can get.

i remember learning some stuff in Cisco Networking where you can limit bandwidth on certain parts of the network, and allow certain areas to get more. but i forget how to do it, i dont even know the term, but you'd need to be experienced with programming routers/switches.
