sold my Panasonic PT53WX54 53" tv for $800, now i get to go out and buy another tv on friday-saturday.

im looking to get a 46" Samsung LCD, i guess i will just look around on the weekend. i will come home with something biggrin:
i want something that is really bright and i can use it as a computer monitor too for browsing the web

Yeah Toshiba also, I would say go with Toshiba and Samsung, Sony is overpriced, and Pioneers shit is amazing, but uber expensive.

overpriced? well, i would say it depends on your own experience. After ive owned or the rents owned pioneers, toshibas, mitsubishis and samsungs, the sonys we have now are the only ones to last more than 2 years. The others just seem to last a year+ then one day they shit out. Not saying all those other brands are crap, but my experience tells me that the consistant quality isnt there like sony. not to say sonys dont ever crap out earlier or those other dont last longer, but i'll pay a few more bucks for the peace of mind.

Maybe you have bad luck but so far i have had excellent luck with Samsung and Mitsubishi, my parents HD Mitsubishi is about 5 years old now and still looks great.

Sony is overpriced, sure the pic quality is great, but why overpay when you can get a Samsung or Toshiba thats pic quality rivals it?

for me, im not too worried about the pic quality right now as i just have basic cable which, after comparing everything, pic quality on basic cable varies only slightly. I just dont like buying a new tv every 2 years. i guess ive just learned to be brand loyal to the tvs which have been good to me. perhaps youve just had good luck with your samsungs

I like samsung myself. I have a 61" HD DLP and its been ferfect for the 2 years ive owned it. It has a plug in the back for a monitor cable. I have a second computer hooked up to it for web surfing.

if you have the money sony's are the best...they will last the longest...

this is just going by the tvs i own...the sonys are still going strong...all of them.

Bravias are meant to be dodgy, some seem to have "clouding" issues. Thing i hate about lcd's is you're not guaranteed a perfect panel and could end up with some dead or stuck pixels. That ends up with a lot of swapping of sets assuming of course the retailer deems a couple of dead pixels to meet requiremetns for a new screen, some do and some don't depending on the panel manufacturer and their dead pixel policy.


Plasmas are better in 2 areas, no pixels so no dead ones obviously, and they display black better than lcd's. They usually are more expensive if you want a 1080p compatible screen, the price premium going from 42" to 50" is usually pretty hefty as well.

plasmas can burn in though,
and with the dead pixels isnt it something like if it has no dead pixels by the first month then you will never get on?

i use to want a huge dlp, but a friend of mine had so many issuse with them

Plasmas do burn in but lcd's can also suffer the same thing with static images, though it takes longer.

Ive had 3 lcd' monitors so far and only 1 dead pixel which isn't even noticable as its in the bottom right of the screen where windows displays the clock. Far as im aware if your lcd arrives with none its unlikely to get any as its usually something that hapens when the screen gets manufactured.

90 % of LCD's that leave the factory have at least 2 dead pixels. 40 to 60 % of the total produced, do not even make it to shipping . The hazardous waste from these screens is hard to dispose of as well. THis is why LCD's still have a heavy cost.
