Does anyone think militarys will ever seriously invest cash in making walkers? I can't really see any advantages in them myself, bigger profile = easier to spot\target\hit, most likely not very manouverable, relativly easy to knock over and once its knocked over its more than likely fucked. oOo:
Wouldn't exactly call the one in that vid a walker..more like a shuffler, think some japanese guy made it.

Well the idea is a walker is supposed to be able to propel itself up a much greater incline or even small vertical steeps that tanks and other treaded/wheeled vehicles wouldn't be able to pass over. Ideally to combine the mobility of infantry with the firepower and armor of a tank.
Not gonna happen for a long time, and never in the Mechwarrior/2142 style that video is trying to recreate.

Then, out of nowhere, regular infantry hits it with a AT4 or RPG and its fucking done. Walkers are pointless and far to easily damaged, when in doubt, aim for the joints.

Yup, walker seems to have more negative points than plus points.

but youre thinking about it with our existing technology. when it may be feasable to use walkers, they may be able to absorb/dodge those types of weapons. there is no doubt in my mind that at some point they will be used in some form. in theory, they have huge advantages over wheeled vehicles in maneuverability

Yes, and by then portable missile systems will have advanced to a point to render what are fairly slow moving itmes pointless. Machinery and mechanics have there physical limits. Steel can only be so strong, composites only useful, the speed and agility these things would need to "dodge" rockets means there nothing but a dream. Your better off designing an off road vehicles such as an armored quad or something with a few rockets on it. Small target, fast, and agile, with a rocket that can still kill a tank.
