Default build me a computer - 05-15-2008, 06:49 PM

so my piece of shit is on the fritz. i think the cpu just went out and i just feel like there's no point in trying ot keep this ancient machine alive. i'm looking to spend around a grand canadian or so on a whole new system. i've got plenty of harddrives and a 420w i can transfer over (that's enough right)? i just want it to handle photoshop and whatever heavy load programs i throw at it; don't care aobut gaming.

Asus p35 mobo (p5k)
Antec p182
Q6600 g0 (SLACR) stepping
Antec Ea 650w psu
Crucial Ballistix Tracer 2gig (pc 800mhz) Can probably get it a bit cheaper without the led's on it.
AuzenTech Auzen X-Fi Prelude 7.1 Channels 24-bit 192KHz PCI Interface Sound Card (not big into sound but see these reccomended over creative soundblasters a lot lately)
Asus EN8800GT/HTDP/256M nVidia GeForce 8800GT Chipset (600MHz) Shader Clock (1500MHz) 256MB (1.8GHz) PCI-Express 2.0 Graphic Card

Having second thoughts about the gt now, just noticed its the 256mb version, could get a 512mb board for $50 more though.

Did you upgrade your shit Anti?

----------------------------

Gerv, what would be the best processor/mobo/RAM combo for around the £200 mark? I had lined up the following for around £184.

Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L

Intel Core 2 Duo E7200

Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-5400C4 TwinX

I haven't been paying attention to the latest developments in PC components, so I thought I'd ask for your advice. (I'm not interested in overclocking; looking for something stable and reliable)

I might ask over at OcUK as there seems to be a metric ton of people over there who like nothing more than pricing up new systems for people.

Any intel p35 chipset mobo should be good for that, for ram id say stick to crucial\corsair or OCZ. Cpu wise for dual core might be worthwhile looking at a wolfdale E8200 or e8400.

under the psu the case is nicely chopped up like you see on it's roof, allowing the psu fan to function freely. i was a bit worried at first but i've seen others do it so i figured i was ok.
