Well if your looking for that factor of realism in the game you might be in luck, They said weapon authenticity will be very accurate and that they are tryign to only make guns do what they actually did, having guns that fired tracers be the only ones that fire tracers, correct reloading procedures etc. so the muzzle flash may be right, however if they kept that in, it would prolly just be for the reason movies use muzzle flashes just to add as another way to show that your firing or that someone else is firing at you. ya know what i mean?

I think muzzle flashes are a cool thing to see, they make you more intimidating

I just thought of something interesting here. I have handled rifles for a while, and one thing I've deffinitly noticed is the near complete lack of Muzzle flash when firing LIVE rounds.
Even during the late morning, mid day and early evening it is just a bang and a cloud of smokeless powder.
Only during the early morning, late evening and nightime is muzzle flash very noticeable.
This includes Pistols and Machine Guns.
Sometimes, I've noticed a Muzzle Flash from a M1A1 Thompson, Mp-40 and Sten. Again, not every round, just every once and a while.
94% of the time anyways it's just the Powder smoke busting out of the barrel.

You wont bee able to see a muzzle flash in a bright day. However it is clearly visible in a moderate light conditions, both cal. 22 and 6.5 which I use in competitions. I have also used 7.62 ammunition in an AG3 machine gun, and the result is the same. I guess it’s also a question about what kind of, and how much powder you use in your cartridges.
The most stupid muzzle flashes I see in games are the ones with four side-bursting flashes. In real life those flashes are caused by a muzzle attachment, which are widely used in Hollywood together with blank ammunition. I can understand why Hollywood are using blanks, but I can’t understand why some games imitate it.

Ludacris - Yes, It's because they where blank rounds. With no round traveling down the chamber, which restricts the speed the gas escapes the barrel, most of the powder is burned when the barrel is finally clear.

I hear ya polaris the muzzle flash in the vids ive seen are way over the top. Literally the whole front of the gun lights up not to mention that the flash effect looks a bit crap too.
I dunno whats the big fuss over that game whoop dee doo it has a realistic flamethrower so did kingpin and the programmers from xatrix are the ones that did it in rtcw as well.
Have any of you seen what a guy on fire looks like? That has to be the worst effect ive seen basically he runs around with lots of really small flames stuck to him and it doesn't look realistic at all.
That games getting so much hype its bound to disappoint from what ive seen the mp40 machne pistol takes almost 1 magazine to kill one enemy.
Check this short vid i made outta some wolfenstein footage its 1.5meg in size wmv format and shows the cheesy flamethrower death and the even cheesier muzzle flash.

BallisticWookie - "It's something that people have come to expect when they see a weapon fired"
Well, It's still that people expect that all weapons have a highly burning muzzle flash, and you didnt have to reload it, and you didnt have to clean it, and there is no way to break it. I think it's just Ignorance for more "effect."
Havent you ever seen a John Woo Film? God, I think that this windtalker stuff has a large chance of sucking.

Just keep one thing in mind when you bitch aboot realism kiddies... this game isn't real. *GASP* REALLY? Yup, it's just an animated romp through historically inspired areas. Not even all of the locations are real. So, seeing that hunting the Hun nowadays is rather illegal, you just have to do it vicariously through a piece of historical fiction that is ANIMATED. NOT REAL!

only you care about the muzzle flash imo, maybe other do to, but most of us dont care if the the muzzle flash of the gun is 100% realistic or the recoil system is in the wrong place on the 88

i understand where Waffy is coming from though . because of the size of the flash in rtcw is rediculous imo . but i definately know that the flash in MoHAA wont be that unrealistic , and i would also like to see some smoke effect when you shoot .
