when opening a sound file for MOHAA what do i open it with???

You have to open the pk3 file that contains the sounds and copy them out as you don't wanna mess with your pk3 files.
Windows media player plays most of them.

Do you mean the *.mp3*s or the *.mus* files??

Open .mus files with notepad/ultraedit and mp3s with a media player.
