PS to all those guys that have been on my side...cheers for blowing me up!!! try getting your opponents 1st!! fire1:

what i do for keys is i set up my own configuration to how i feel is comfortable. it help if u know how to type too. i only use one set up for every game i have ever played... moh is my first online though. also set the mouse speed all the way up. it makes you alot quicker

I think it's partly because many of us have been playing multiplayer first person shooters for years that new ones are so easy to pick up and be good at (that was not at all meant to brag, just saying that the games are similar in many respects).
I'd say some of the more common and useful keyboard control setups are the WASD or the ESDF variety (that is, W to go forward, S to go backwards, and A and D to strafe left and right respectfully. ESDF is really the same thing but places your left hand on the home keys, which is great if you are a person who types correctly). Then you use the mouse to aim and fire. Other keys vary by user, some people prefer space or right mouse for jump or use/open/whatever. Basically, whatever is most confortable for you and requires the least hand movement is going to work the best.
Good luck! biggrin:

thanx friends, ive donemohaa, wolfentein and sof2 time and time again, on single player you dont really need to creep aroung too much, but playing against humans lol is a different story! i will try to speed up my mouse, and have always used the same setup for all my games, i use the arrow keys for forwards and backwards and the left and right to lean, which im just getting used to, its the strafe that gets me...i use a and d, and even if it was closer i dont see how you lot can blend them so well... like you say it must be a case of practice, the moment i thought i would give it a go online i realised it was a different league!!
PS be gentle with me lol! im a newby!! hahaha

Don't worry mullins, we were all newbies at one time, others still are. I'm not all that good, I just play a lot. I use arrows for moving, mouse for fire, | and \ for reload, ENTER for open/use, Shift for jump, and CTRL/0 INS for leaning, although, when you press 0 INS and two other buttons, you get a system beep, which gets really annoying, and it won't move all three directions. The games just take some time getting used to online. Good luck, and have fun!

I don't know what kind of computer and modem you have but these could be the most important issues that were not mentioned. I know when I play at my friends house he has a higher ping than I do and about half the computer I have and I basically suck so bad I don't even want to play. No matter how good you are if your not pinging well or have crappy fps it is going to be tuff to good. Happy Fraggin

Well i have a crappy computer and my mohaa only has 40 fps average but still i can kill a few people. You just have to play A LOT cause after awhile u just know what the other person will do. Sometimes i get lucky and move my crossheir just when the enemy is strafing and hit him in the head. I always try to predict what the other guy's gonna do....... aim is important too, since i have shitty fps i cant just swing the smg like crazy i have to slowly move my crossheir and try to keep it a bit above their chest cause then it's either a head shot or chest shot. Of course the most important tip is to shoot in bursts with mg and smg. depending on how far away u are, the further away the shorter the bursts.

WTF!?! 40FPS is crappy? Dude...I run on an average of 15-20FPS, and I sorta own...LOL. I'm usually 3:2 or 2:3. I mean, I get a lot of kills, I just also get killed a lot. I don't know why, but, I run smooth with 15FPS, I get 60 ping mainly...shitty Dell, can't upgrade vid card.

Mullins, no worries..I have kept all of my commands or controls or whatever all the same and I like to think I am an ok player. Of course it'll take you awhile to get used to whatever you have it on...you could have forward as F1, backwards as space bar, strafe right as pageup, and strafe left as caps lock, it'll be hard at first but then after awhile you wouldn't have it any other way..I still use a,w,s,and d and I can go forward atr an angle and lean at the same time with no problem. So my advice to you is hang in there and you'll get it.

Anti Hero is only good, not cuz of his configuration...because he uses an aimbot.

Ahhhhh yes Woldenstein 3d, Doom 1, Duke Nukem 3d. The good ol days.
You'll get better, you just may need to change your keys around. I use the direction keys for my movement, then the outlying keys for key commands. Like crouch, jump, use, etc. Some people have there leans bound on there mouse or along with there strafe. Thats a level im not willing to take as a think it takes away from the game a little. i still have lean on z and x. You'll get used to it, just give it time. As JenniFur points out most of us have been doing this for a while now. Some, like me, from the beginning. ed:

I wasnt good at first either, but i found that finding the right weapon for you can be key. for a while i tried everything, but then a found out i was best w/ the sniper, and on some levels a maching gun. Finding one weapon and focusing on getting good w/ it is important.

Well, like all of these guys said, it just takes time. I think, however, that your attitude is the most important and you're doing pretty damn good. When I started MOH I had only played Quake back in its early days and was getting irritated quite often. But if you can keep your spirits up even while you're getting blasted you're doing good and should learn quickly.
Another tip is to join some of the servers you find listed in this forum such as AA.com members server. There are a lot of pros on these servers, so spec them for a while and watch what they do. And after you pick up a few things it'll just be a matter of time before you're able to start owning them.

hi people :-)
thanx for the feed back, ive been trying variations of the keys, and am slowly getting used to it..( im still shit tho! lol) but even if i dont get too many kills, i tend to last the game more often, and im not one of those you stays hidden!!!!
i watched 2 guys tonight that obviously were playing together, and thats wot i think you need, i try to make it obvious im covering someone, and i know they can see me... then they bugger off, and it normally ends in one of us getting shot!
why have a free for all when you can help the whole team by getting more kills and a win?
tell you wot, all you veteran mp gamers, if you stay off line for the next few years it will give me a chance to catch up!!! lol

Gforce ti 4600
