I'd rather not get a new motherboard. I currently have an AMD Athlon 950Mhz. The motherboard I have now will support up to an AMD Athlon XP 1800+ (1.53Ghz : 266 Mhz FSB). If this is sufficient to get max performance from my video card I'll stick with this plan. If not I guess I should consider getting a new motherboard and the latest AMD...

I came across something with my buddy yesterday. We decided to check my powersupply and its only 250w, when most are around 350w. Could this put a hurt on my overall geforce 4 performance?

Sure it could. Check the specs for your card. You may be underpowered.

The R9700 Pro requires a minimum 350W supply and it's own connection to it.

At 1024X768, 32-bit colors, max everything, I still get 10FPS on Omaha sometimes, and I have:

P4 2.0Ghrz
512MB PC-800 RDRAM
GF Ti 4600
Win XP

MOH is just a system hog. Just because you have a great video card dosen't mean the game's going to work perfectly.

that would definitely be it. The Geforce 4 line requires a 350W PSU...My ti4600 worked fine with the 300w on my system but once i reformated it no longer works...i spoke to a couple people i know that are techs and they said the same thing happened to them and once they got a better PSU it worked fine again.(i'm going to england next week so i don't have the spare cash to get one..stuck with my old geforce2 pro till then..ick)
I would definitely definitely get a new PSU before shelling out for a new processor if I were you...want some simple advice for buying a PSU

brand names are actually VERY important...a 300w brand name PSU would be better than a 400w no name brand....I recommend getting at least a 450W brand name PSU if I were you.

most people don't realize just how important a good quality power supply is to their system..

you may have been asked this already or have said but i cant be assedt to read it all but is it by any chace a gainward? if it is i had the exact same prob what it is the graphics card overheats and eventually u get this pink screen come up and it fuks up everything and u have to reboot

ack! you shouldn't be dropping that low..I don't even drop that low with the temporary 64Mb GeForce 2 Pro I have sitting in my pc.

if you're still having that problem I'd recommend one or all of three things...
either
a) underclock your card just a bit
b)increase your case cooling..add more fans and/or change the stock fans with high performance fans
c)thermaltake has a great fan replacement kit for the geforce4 ti's...it'll cool your card much better than the stock fan....it comes in two flavours...boring and modded

i still got a geforce 2 64mb on a pentium 3 1.0 GHz, 256ram and with medium graphics setting i still get around 30-40 fps, not too bad and i dont really care if my graphics dont look absolutly perfect, so this works well for me.

Yeah turn off v-sync. left click on your desktop and go into your video card properties, Its in there.
Ok look, Left click on your desktop/click on properties/click on settings/click on Advanced/ok mine is a geforce3 but on your it should say Geforce4 ti4400 click on it/now depending on what drivers you have it might be diffrent, but mine is under openGL settings. Theres a "always off" setting use it. Hope that helps you some

going to get a new power supply not just for my geforce4, but for my whole sytem. Hopefully that will solve my problem, but if not im getting it so my psu doesnt burn up. Also does anyone kno what kind of brand to buy from? Im looking for a 250-400w psu.

Well i had the same problem.
I upgraded to a new card and my Frame rate dropped..
I did a lot of investigation. (not joking, A LOT!)

I had a AMD Tbird 1 gig with 512mb pc133
What I found was with Nvidia making these extreme cards, they dont tell you that you need a bad ass comp to use it. The frame rates they promiss can be done. Most frame rate tests are done on dual prossesor machines or overclocked.
I was pretty pissed off myself. Spent 400 bucks for a card and my frame rate dropped.
What you are getting is normal and with the setup you have now. there is nothing you can do about it.
Basiclly your Processor and memory is bottle necking it.
Your going to have to get a new machine in order to take full advantage of the GeForce4

I went on to build a new machine
AMD 1.733mhz
1 gig pc3200 extreme ddr
asus 333 motherboard (piece of crap) getting the new nvidia motherboard soon enough.
40gig ATA 133 hard drive
431w powersupply
Custom case, with a lot of fans for cooling

Now.. Its extremly hard for my frame rate to get lower then 60
I would go with AMD
Stay away from Intel

I have built a lot of machines and AMD has always out performed Intel.
Intel is good for 1 thing. Less need of service (cleaning)
When people come to me with "I want the ultimate gaming machine" I sell AMD
When people come to me with "I want a up to date office machine" then they get Intel.

I get these issues all the time from people.. Its a shame they never came to me first.
I wouldnt point you in the wrong direction. I have been there. Lived it.. Pissed off..
