our school allows them on Friday because that is their day to be in "church"

We have Christian Fellowship at my school, it would be prejudice not to allow the rest

We all have a god to kill for.

They just go by different names.

It seems that Muslims everywhere want some kind of special treatment and then when they don't get it they go and whine about "the way the West is treating them" and then go blow up stuff.

No letting them interrupt classes for prayer would be a major win for Islam. And furtheremore, why should they get special treatment when no other religion demands this of the school system, for example: ever hear of a kosher school meal?
could you imagine the impact of letting muslim kids pray at school? just what osama bin laden wants[/quote:5da39]

May I ask how is that what osama bin laden wants?

Anyway my school has a room or two set aside for a person of any religion time between class to go pray or whatever they need to do for their religion Just very few choose to do it. That might be what the people in maryland want(i don't know for sure, you didn't post a link to the article)

ok, well a few of those request seem somewhat reasonable, but it seems that the schools there are celebrating more religious holidays then they should, the only holiday my school gets off for is Christmas and maybe easter but thats only because spring break is right after it
Heard this story on FOX news.

Some Muslim families in Maryland asking public schools to accommodate their religion. Hmm last time I checked religions was not allowed in school, Now they want special praying times with prayer mats, what should they be allowed to interrupt classes so they can pray? do they want every muslim holiday off I mean geez you cant give them the whole friggen month off so they can do their Ramadan thing, you just cant do it. They want special menus for their diet, that I could live with. But the actaul practice of religion is not allowed in public school, and other religions dont get special treatment either, hell in some districts you cant have "christmas" partys, we dont interrupt classes to let Catholics have confession during 5th period. Religion should be kept out of the public schools, if you want special treatment because of your religion, then go to a religious school.

i know alot of you dont like B. O'reilly but he was right on here:

Alright, who cares, chill out. I'm actually very disgusted that you posted a link to the Fox New on this forum. Second of all, how many people are supporting this? Every Muslim in America? Don't think so. So stop blowing up some stupid incident into a huge revolutionary event. And what do you care about schools anyway? I thought you wanted to increase the military budget, which is getting more than twice the amount of funding as schools are in America. I believe other religious groups have also been pushing for that crap too. Like the ten commandments on the wall and so on? Why don't you mention them? Or some Mormons that want days off for Sabbath.

Have a nice life.

No... but they are sensitive about it, by calling it a "theory."

I think it's funny. for years the Christian fundamentalist have been trying to force their will on the Americian public school system. Creationism, banning books, prayer in school. Maybe some of the their kids will convert to the Islamic faith, I would laugh my ass off.

well i cant see how having ramadan off is a bad thing, i mean in florida they have all the jewish holidays off + the christian ones like christmas(which is also a month long break) so i dont see any problem with them having muslim holidays in heavily muslim populated areas. also my texas district has a policy that if you are absent for a religious reason it is exused which is just as good as having a holiday..

Why not allow everyone pray as they wish as long as they have permission from parents so they can skip a few lessons on prayer. And if they dont need to pray just gon with the lesson. Simple as that. What does the American system have to make a huge fuss about everything.
