Sounds like a nice game, but what you are thinking of doing is gonna require a LOT of work and time. And your going to do all this alone? Good luck beer:

HaHA bloke! I'm in an animation class, so we're organizing it as a class project I just get to act as director and guide the process along, and writer. And level editor. And cock-whore.

i wanna remake of system shock 2
idk how many of you know about sshock, but i think it is hands down, one of the best games ever...it was so engrossing, with an amazing story line, immersive (yet dated) graphics, and the first incorporation of rpg and fps genres (jus before deus)
it had zombies (humans infested w/ worm parasites), and tons of scary make-you-jump-put-of-your-seat shit
i would wait for hl2 or d3 to do it, forget about cod

What you have so far sounds good. Really good, infact.
I'm tired of games that just drop you in the action with no "logical" explanation for what's going on, but your's does good on that part.
Yeah character development might mean a lot in this, try to show a bit of his/her past in some of the cut-scenes or whatever, or maybe when he/she has drifted into sleep maybe show their past in dreams or something. That'd be pretty cool. cool:

Also, you may want to look at things that have worked. Getting to drive vechilces would be a bonus as long as it doesnt interfere with the story line. The ability to weild, say, 2 pistols at once, has been totally ingored in a lot of shooters, and I think you should consider integrating it.

Just for general knowledge carrying weapons "akimbo" means to be using two weapons at once.

1: As for vehicles: You will be in some, but not driving. If i started incorporating vehicles it could get ugly. Either i give them the ability to take a car, in which case they're wondering why they can't steal a car any time and drive into the sunset, or i give them dicky weird little vehicles that only work in certain areas, that really will remove the realism of the game because it's simply too weird to be driving. In the case of cars, once you have a car, the whole thing becomes open ended really, and you want to drive off anywhere, when in order to improve character development, the whole thing is a little linear at points. Plus i just can't map the whole world for ya, sorry ;-) In terms of dicky little vehicles, think like a zamboni: Yeah, you'd probably find one at some point, and you could definitely restrict it to just a big hockey rink or something...but once you hop on that zamboni, you're immediately pulled away from any of the horror elements. It's just like "weeee i'm on a zamboni! Fuck this!!!"
So, the solution is largely the bus driver: any cars you do come across will either be just visible on the map but not reachable, or will be busted so bad you obviously couldn't use them. When you meet the bus driver however, they will drive the bus and you can be in it, and then you still script an awesome crash sequence, but you're in a vehicle.
2: For Akimbo: Lemme think about it. That gets into some pretty hard coding at points unless HL-2 already has it. And although it could be done indeed, i'm not sure if i'm sold on the idea of letting a horror character feel like an action movie character. I'm trying to shy away from too many guns altogether. I definitely agree that not enough games let you go akimbo, especially when they push around how realistic they are. But again think in the confines of a horror game, if you're in a creaking groaning hospital listening to moans down the hall with nothing but a flashlight to lead you on, having some dual AK's is going to make you a lot more ballsy than having a broom you found downstairs.
Please, get back to me on your thoughts!
