Here a few pics my buddy took and I photoshopped of a cement factory about a half hour from my house:

what is that outline effect in the 3rd one ? is it a filter.. last time i treid something similar i ended up tracing the whole thing out via lasso....

take the thing you want to make a silhouette of, cut it out from the background, then give it a color overlay effect of the color you want

Neg. Copy the main pic then paste into a new layer. Then do Image > Adjustments > Threshold. Then drag it into a good place where its only the dark area you want. Use the magic wand tool so it pics up all the white and voila you have a cutout.
