im not sure of the technical differences. i know the layout of the buttons are different. the d70s is obviously the "better" camera. you get what you pay for with nikon. it all depends what you want to use this camera for. if you want to take some nice shots to post on gf1 or other online photography things, then the d50 would probably suit you, with a good lens. if you want to go further with photography and do it as a freelance job or something, the d70s would be your best bet.
like i said, i have the d50 and it takes the quality pictures i want. only complaint is the slow button response at times, but thats probably because i dont fully know how to manipulate the camera's function.
