I'd rather the aiming system for infantry was ala MOH or RTCW.

Drift I can understand with other units, but infantry drifting ruins that part of the game for me.

I bought BF1942 yesterday, loaded and down loaded the patches.

IMO, this game is only "mediocre" at best and really not worth my time.
The graphics, game mechanics, everything about it (to me) was second rate compared to MOH.

I'm uninstalling it today and taking it back to where I bought it. I won't get full price because the game box was opened, but anything I get will be better than nothing at all and have one more un-played game sitting on my computer desk.

Can't wait until spearhead comes out!

Best WWII game so far: IL-2 Sturmovik. It has more more fliable planes, than the amount of vehicles in BF1942, and after the expansion pack... it will have about over a dozen of new planes. I would also like to honorably mention WWII Online. :P I'm also not expecting any new worthwhile vehicles in BF1942 to be released any time soon.

Blah, I really ws not impressed by BF1942

I felt like I was at the arcade pumping quarters again...

MOH is much more intense, to me. Everything about BF1942 seems childish to me...the explosions, the way the game was played, the ability to use all the different vehicles, the way the guys shot...

UGH, and the graphics :uke::

Time to address so of the misinformation in this thread.

[quote:406c8]Best WWII game so far: IL-2 Sturmovik. It has more more fliable planes, than the amount of vehicles in BF1942[/quote:406c8]

eek:

It has more fliable planes? And? Battlefield has a far more varied range of vehicles than just boring planes every other map. Il2 sturmovik may be ok for plane enthusiasts but thats about it. And i hope you were joking about ww2 online. ed:

Il2 planes look ok but the actual maps look shit, its just a collection of green textures and the occasional crappy looking town and military convoy. The maps in bf are a shitload more detailed and look more realistic.

[quote:406c8]I felt like I was at the arcade pumping quarters again... [/quote:406c8]

Really? And tell me when did moh:aa become this uber realism game all of a sudden? MOh:aa multi is just as aracde stlyed as bf-1942 although the way the weapons work in bf seems to be more realism orientated as it accounts for bullet drop off and having to lead your target a bit.

[quote:406c8]UGH, and the graphics :uke::[/quote:406c8]

So you're telling me this pkane model looks like a pile of shite? If so i suggest you get your eyes examined.

The graphics in battlefiled 1942 are not as good as medal of honors for one reason, the massive size of the maps. The largest maps in mohaa don't even come close to being a quarter of the size of the medium maps in bf.

If you want higher polygon models then you're mad, people are having trouble running battlefield on 1ghz plus systems because of the massive size of the maps, if you're gonna add higher polygon player AND weapons models into the equation then i suggest you start saving for a pentium 4 3ghz system with the ati r-350 graphics board and a gig of 3000 ddr ram. The vehicle modles in this game look very good and the weapons models while basic do the job.

[quote:406c8]i get better range shots with the BAR than i do with the rifle[/quote:406c8]

I find it easy enough to get long\medium range kills with almost any weapon aside from pistols obviously

Depnds. BF1942 is a game in it's own. It's a good mix of RPG and 1st person shooter. Instead of just the objective of killing one another to win, you must conquer the opponents territory in order to obtain victory. This is what makes the game unique, and fun. Oh, and the vechiles are ok too, I guess, heh (That's sarcasm!)

Flat green textures?! Crappy looking towns?! You need to boost up your detail settings, or get a new video card. There are trees everywhere in IL-2. At least when I'm flying a Stuke, I really feel like I'm flying a Stuka. Where did you get this idea, that the best WWII Game must have the best graphics. The massive plus of IL-2 is that it's REALISTIC. Wow, what a concept! Does BF-1945 even have atmospheric effects? Or any clouds? Are the planes in BF-1942 realistically modelled? The topic said, "Best World War II game", and I'm pretty sure IL-2 is the most realistic and closest to WWII as you can get right now. But anyway, you can go ahead and go play your little frag fest, and I'll be playing my 50+ realistically modelled planes in IL-2. I'm not even going to discuss the utter chaos and retardation in BF-1942. The game sucks, unless you're on a private server or a lan party.

Spooge fact of the matter is tha ANY game can suck online. All it takes is one arsehole to ruin a game for anyone on any server. I never said that the best ww2 game must have the best graphics bf-42 graphics for the most part are a bit cack but the vehicle models and the sheer scale of the maps more than makes up for it.

I don't see how being "realistic" has anything to do with being a massive plus. Compare the amount of arcaade styled games on the market compared to realistic styled games and realism gets driven into the ground through sheer numerical superiority of arcade styled games.

I had the il2 demo which was some strafing mission or some shit but from what i remember the maps looked very basic and there wasn't much in the way of detail. I dunno what settings i was using as it was a long time ago but i might redload it and give it another try.

[quote:1ec83]The topic said, "Best World War II game", and I'm pretty sure IL-2 is the most realistic and closest to WWII as you can get right now.[/quote:1ec83]

I dunno how you figure this. Il2 has ONE vehicle type (that being a plane be it fighter or bomber). Battlefield 1942 has pretty much the majority of the main vehicles used in ww2. Subs half tracks planes bombers destroyers battleships tanks higgins boats artillery cannons flak cannons.

In terms of substance bf-42 prety much shits over anything else on the market as theres so much to do in the game. The demo was populated by retards yes but pretty much any server i go into these days has people working together to accomplish things.

Just an hour or so ago i was on the axis team and we had planes strafing the shit out fo a base while some of us in tanks were in a convoy guarding half tracks full of troops. Granted it might not happen to that degree very often BUT when it does it has a very realistic ww2 look and feel to it.

And for the nay sayers ign had a true quote at the end of their review and here it is.

[quote:1ec83]There are two groups of people who won't like this game. The first are the unfortunate few who simply don't have a powerful enough machine or a fast enough connection to be competitive. The other group would be the misguided minority who just don't like fun.[/quote:1ec83]
