This is a MODDING forum. -

I come on here every other day or so to see if maybe I can use what I know to help someone else. Instead of seeing numerous threads requesting help to learn to do something, all I see is "Someone make me this" or "Need a mapper to make me a map". All I have to say is that if all of us that know how to do this stuff had the same attitude when we started, there would be NOONE who knows how to do it. This is a MODDING forum...not a requests forum. Why not try to do it yourself instead of constantly spamming the boards with requests that will probably never be filled. I myself have grown so sick of this lack of drive to learn that I refuse to do any requests from here on. I strongly believe that most of the people here who do know what they are doing are of the same ideas as me. You people need to grow up and get over this "Mommy will do it for me" ideal you have.
On the same note, all the people that beg for tutorials, I have slightly more respect for you because at least you are going to try to make it yourself. At the same time though, you are pretty much eliminating the processes which will make you a better skinner/modder. The trial and error process is the only true way to learn those little tricks of the trade. In effect, by asking for a step by step instruction you are limiting yourself to mediocrity at best. You will never be a good skinner/modder unless you learn yourself.
In closing, I really wish we could go back to the days of old, when 90% of the people that hung around this forum were people who knew what they were doing and were only here to help each other with those little problems. Now as I look all I see are the people that probably need someone to tie thier shoes for them, or at least need a step by step tutorial on it. In a nutshell what Im saying is, DO IT YOURSELF.

I'm not trying to start anything, but by making this thread you have now willing asked for people to spam you. Nothing is going to change the way these forums are run. Some people enjoy making maps, mods, and skins, while others would love to but just don't have the time to be dealing with this shit. Yet, at the same time they are looking for ways to improve their mohaa gameplay, and that's where you guys come in. You make the mods that over half the mohaa community uses. If everyone knew how to mod then everyone would make their own stuff and there would be no need for this forum, except for showing off. If what you want is to have a bunch of conceited people plugging their shit on these forums then that's your business, but I personally would hate to see that day.
As for people begging. The world is full of givers and receivers, and it just so happens that there are a hell of a lot more receivers. But, making a post to tell people to get off their asses and make shit themselves won't change a goddamn thing. I appreciate your post, but truthfully you are just wasting your time.
Once again, I mean no disrespect, you are a key asset to these forums and I just think you should keep it that way.

I agree with everything EXCEPT for what i quoted. I'm just starting to mod and WITH the help of step by step tuts it's helped me come up with some ideas of my own which i worked out with trial and error. Everyone needs some sort of guide to help them through with something they have never done or still new too. So you have a little more respect for people asking for tuts... well god damn I feel so much better now.

Deleto is right. While i myself do not mod, ive been looking (not posting) and coming to this site since the beginning of this year. These forums have been slowly declining. I used to check them for things like scope mods and new maps everyday, but now theres nothing to be found here. Im not telling people to make more stuff, im saying just dont post here and ask stupid questions about who can make me a map of Band of Brothers. Yes i do have a bunch of posts for not making anything, but i do try to help out people when possible. I think its time we put this forum section to rest and tryed to focus on a new game like CoD where we can start the chain all over again where people mod on their own and actually care about these forums...

Yeah, things were just starting to get good around here with Simo and more than like 6 total moderators. Let's face it, they arn't going to catch anything, the forums are gone. We need individual people dedicated ot each section. We need sombody watching the mods section exclusively. No steel fist nazi dumbass, no leneant crowd pleasers, just a good strong mod (in my opnion like Simo) who will put an end ot the bs.

Exactly my point. I NEVER used a tutorial for ANYTHING. I taught myself and learned by screwing up. Before this game I had NEVER modded anything before, and look at me now. I can do just about anything you should expect to the game. And noone ever gave me a tutorial. When it comes to models I admit that Hobbs and Guarnere were an integral part of my learning to mess with that aspect of the game, but other than them giving me 2 or 3 tips when I got stuck on something, I taught myself this too. They didnt show me step by step how to do it.
As you stated Timur, I believe that that is what this forum was built for. For people to get that tip when they get stuck, or to ask an opinion on something before they put it out for everyone. Criticism affects the work only for the better in most cases. Or maybe for someone who is trying to add a scope effect to a mg to come and ask what zoom level does what. Thats the way it was when I started coming here to show my work and give help. It wasnt built so people to come and spam about a mod they want. It was made to assist modders in releasing higher quality work by getting the opinions and tips from thier peers. A year ago this forum was full of "Check out my new skin" or "My new map is done", now it is full of "I want this made!!" or "Need a mapper to make ME a map".
I suppose that one word is what is causing this. The origins of this forum were built upon modders helping modders, hence giving. Now they are based around People begging endlessly for a modder to make them something that they could very easily learn to make themselves, hence taking.
I support your statement about givers and recievers. I just refuse to be a giver much longer. I will more than gladly help anyone with a question that I may answer, or to throw in my two cents on what could be done to improve a mod, but as far as all these requests go I am through with that.

Dr. D, i think all the beggin in here is pure shit as well. If everyone got off they're ass and just looked for how to do stuff like i do things would be better in here. More power to you if you taught yourself how to do all the amazing things you do for the game but the fact is not everyone can grasp stuff as easy as you seem to. If some of these lazy bastards bothered to look around for tuts to help them out they too could prob start doing stuff on they're own. I just think it's shitty for you to dump on people because they may need a tut to "get they're feet wet", but that's just my opinion. Granted this place isn't the best forum to go for help, BUT TMT has tuts stickied for a reason... to help people just starting out like i am. I go through alot of trial and error and if i get stuck i go there for help and most of the posters there are more than happy to help. How about this for an idea, have 1 of the MMS mods sticky a post with some modding/skinning tuts other than the one that's there now! But like you said and i 100% agree, all the friggin begging here is a joke, get off your ass and try making stuff on your own (maybe with the help of a tut).

Dr. D,
I agree with you in principle. The problem I have is the old Catch 22; if everyone knew how to mod, there wouldn't be anyone to play our mods, they'd be playing their own.
