Default detail vs. structure - 12-24-2004, 09:37 AM

i've known some mappers (zack from MW) who always make their maps all detail instead of structure/detail . does this work for lowering the fps ? take a look at where i'm at with my SLAG map (pimpin' thread, second set of images) ; could i make most of the ground structures if not all , detail ?

If i remember right you can make anything not touching the skybox structure or detail.

I know what you guys mean but in mapping your able to change brushes to detail or structure and thats what he means.

Detail brushes make the map compile faster because they are not included in vis data. Generally, they do not help performance, because they don't block the view. But there really isn't a short, simple answer. You need to understand the principles behind leaf and view portals.
