Default AA.com - 2 years ?!?!?! - 05-06-2005, 12:09 PM

I'm posting here so everyone will see. Some don't visit all areas of the forum, and I would kinda like to see what everyone thinks.

Newt made a post about MoH and how he missed the old times in the History area, and that started me thinking here. And for those who do not know me...you are about to discover why some love me, but some hate me. lol.

For those who have not guessed, or cared, I am Zen. But due to an overwelming amount of privacy invasion, I would prefere to let the name die. You would not believe the number of PMs, Instant messages, and E-mails I used to get.

Anyway,

Look around guys, and look good. Expecially the 69ers & guys who have been here for more than 2 years. We are at a point of freedom and union not experianced since prior to the revolt.
I missed this on my last absence: Badscript moves on[/url:f5add]
I would say that, not only due to this mind you, that 98% of us are here simply because we want to visit with each other. Simo is here. Anti is here. Inny & Ferich are mods! VC is gone.

With US being both togather and on better terms, perhaps we should persue our new freedom and make some rule changes, alter the forums, get the damned money useful, ect.
I'm not saying things are bad, or we need more mods, or any of that crap. Things are as awsome as I remember when I first joined...and I think thats spectacular.

Just thought I'd get some opinions & input.

To be truthful, I don't mind the state of the forums at the current time. Modding has been pretty good all around lately (Thanks Zone and Tony). Items would be cool to have, and maybe even usergroups; bring in a VC influence. Opening up new forums wouldn't be a bad idea. Get rid of all the unused ones and focus on more general subjects: Music forum, Media forum, etc. That's my input.

rock: beer:
praise anti hero and strik0r[/quote:28fe2]
happy: , Yes the doctor is in as well.

Jin, Himmler, as far as I know has not been previously banned.

Zoner has...or should have... full control over the site and forums. And so long as the forums are not buried in the old PhP stuff, further scripting and additions should be simple.
Usergroups would work either way, and a killer suggestion Anti. + frikin' 1.
To make the shop mod more useable, we would only need to do the scripting. Simo and some of the other guys know how to do that. I do too if no one else wants to mess with it. Once we get that, we can make and use items.

I like the gaming sections, but I think we should merge them, like GG. Lots of us don't play anymore, but I'm sure there are enough guys here that do to warrent it remaining.

I also don't see the need to further push the profanity rules... at least when not used in overload.

Pipe down Comatose.

Zen, i think its a great idea, get rid of unnecesary forums, and broaden the Lounge area.

Perhaps add a Music section, and move TechSupport to the Lounge area?

After thinking about it for 30 seconds, I ahppen to agree. Whether we like it or not, most of the people posting here are either posting in Offtopic, Art/Sig or History. The site has really moved away from gaming, and more into a general place where everyone likes to hang out because we all know each other pretty well since a lot of us have been here for quite a while. Perhaps that should be embraced.

If your forum isn't being spammed by pictures of trees or bestiality and people aren't PSing your face into Hitler pictures you're probably doing a decent job as a moderator.

Good system of measurement, in my opinion.

I forget that alot of the guys here never got involved for long periods of time at VC, and with the level of 13-14 year olds at the site I can understand, lol.

Here is a generalized breakdown of how a few of the mentioned systems worked:

UserGroups
Usergroups are already built into the forum, not further coding would be needed to make them work. Thank you phpbb.

A UserGroup is defined as a set of members with special permissions. That can range from being able to mod a single area of the forum, to access to restricted forums, and allowing new members into a usergroup.
At VC, usergroups could be created by anyone with enought starting members to warrent them. The group would be given thier own private area to post about group tactics ect.

Their purpose at VC was to engage in battles, wars, ect. for respect and prosperity. However usergroups could be used for anything. It was once described to me as a tiny clan, with no gaming invloved.

It is a very cool way to add some activity to the site, and can be managed with limited support needed.

Shop & Items
We already have a shop and money system in place, and changing it over to one like the system used at VC would be very simple I think.

The Shop at VC contained "icons" that could be purchased and were displayed in your "miniprofile". That is the space below your Avatar & location. It would display 5 and have your other items on a "property page... an extension of your Profile, linked from your mini-profile.

Here are a few examples:

Now, you must pay for these items, and VC had thousands. Some were Usergroup specific...meaning only availible to a certain user-group. You could also make a small fortune making the icons...they would have to be approved for use (meaning they better be frikin' good) of course.

Just another way to add activity and enjoyment to the forums.

To make both of these "Enhancements" happen, we would only need some minor coding, and a few dedicated and knowledgable guys to run the extra systems.
